Rae Melody

Rae creates contemporary abstract paintings with an emphasis on the use of colour and has always been fascinated by paint, textures, interesting surfaces and mixing colours. She loves to create the appearance of something that is worn and weathered by using paint but also uses spray paint and collage in her work. Rae's work tells stories of connections to places and intertwined lives. She plays with the scale of things, creating space between objects and places seen, resulting in a distorted image of what is originally there. Rae is an experienced art teacher and Freelance Facilitator at a gallery in Bristol, where she runs art workshops for young people educated in specialised settings. Rae is an advocate for promoting the positive impact of art on wellbeing and mental health. She often leads community-based art projects with young people and organisations with an emphasis on encouraging self- expression and play through art activities.
